Mere census numbers don't define the oppressor class, which becomes smaller and more powerful and oppressive with each passing year.

Condor baby, race don't define the oppressor class either. If you think that the only oppressors belong to the white european race, think about about how much traction Affirmative Action has historically gotten when another race is holding the reigns of power.

Whites won't see any benefits like Government contracts parceled out to minority owned businesses.
What you will see is further division/tension amongst minority races. As Hispanics pass blacks with their strong worth ethic and Asians pass blacks with their strong education ethic, blacks will become further isolated but this time they won't be able to blame discrimination by whites.

Hawaii is an example of a of society where European Americans and Christians are a minority.

The point is that the birth rate of "minority" in the state of Hawaii has always surpassed that of the "majority" of what the rest of America is.
The sky did not fall, but the party of the GOP "whites only" (As it was right after state hood.) has been the minority party since then.
The Sad thing is the local GOP has been towing the TeaHadist line here too, and in the 2010 election here, the GOP became even smaller minority in the state government.
That is the future for the GOP nationally if they continue down this anti-woman anti-emigrant road they are on.

What do you mean the sky did not fall? Hawaii is one of the biggest welfare states in the country despite it's natural beauty and attraction as a tourist destination.
No, your sky did not fall because the productive class props it up.

Here is Federal expenditure by state for 2010, this was the final year for the CFF report as the Obama administration discontinued it-
http://www.census.gov/prod/2011pubs/cffr-10.pdf
Table 13 show expenditures by state, overall then broken down into retirement, procurement, grants, salaries, and other.
Per capita Federal expenditure by category is shown in table 14. Who are the top 5 recipients per capita?
1) Alaska 2) Virginia 3)Maryland 4) Connecticut 5) Hawaii
So, claiming Hawaii is one of the biggest welfare states and Hawaii being number 5 makes it a statement of fact, yes?
Next?

I did not down load the PDF, but just off the top of my head, have you considered the large Military presents, combined with the small population here has a lot to do with the per capita expenditures in Hawaii?

Hawaii has doomed itself to be a blue state in the near term because it has conditioned the most vulnerable of its population to rely completely on the state. But when the floaty noodles get pulled away and the real prospect of drowning becomes apparent, the citizens will learn to swim fairly quickly and be all the better for it. There is always hope, even for Hawaii.

It is not easy making it here, especially if you are a main land "haole", and you can not handle all the sudden being in the minority that has to deal with the prejudices against you.

Soccer is correct, try living there, 1/2 gal. O.J. 8 bucks..
One has to live the culture there "haole" is a term that applies to those of another race, but more broadly those of the white race. I saw it every day I lived there, shopping, you name it.
However, the culture that exists there has little to do with the United States. And that is a good thing. The pure Hawawiian culture is vastly superior to our "mainland" culture.

We are the minority now...but only because of the aggregate of minorities bound together. And therein lies the answer....the individual minorities all claim minority status eternally....though the reality is that they are not.

Do minorities claim minority status or do they claim an uneven competitive landscape due to the behavior of the majority (or now, the largest minority)?
Most people I know get very upset if someone limits them do to an organic characteristic (gender, skin color, etc). Reasonable people expect reasonable people to behave, uh, reasonably. How is balance restored when there is unreasonable behavior on both sides?

"How is balance restored when there is unreasonable behavior on both sides?"
-------------------------
unreasonable behavior = unreasonable behavior
Algebraic balance count for anything? (sorry Snarky, just couldn't resist)
Asian Americans are a minority. Yet we do not hear of their protests to level the playing field or to grant them affirmative action for anything. Minority status is political status, based on the idea that loudest squeak will receive the most grease.

Good point. I lived in Cupertino, CA for many years. Beginning in the mid 80's more and more immigrants moved to Cupertino (good schools, great climate). Soon you'd see an ethnic divide surrounding elections. Asian households supported Asian candidates for the school board and town council. As ethnic make up of these institutions changed, so did their priorities. They achieved the desired results through political action.
However, this one case focuses on a new minority group who moved here with high levels of education and significant wealth. They came here with fewer restrictions and limitations, and they executed along their strengths.

You know, after the Viet Nam war, a group of Vietnamese refugees exiled in the US. They were fishermen, they spoke Vietnamese and moved to Houston. They lived as a large extended family in one house. They pooled their money and bought a fishing boat... they went on the water before the locals and were coming back in when the locals were sitting down to eat. They saved their money and bought a second boat... and a third... and a forth.... Then they bought a second house. The locals were mad because they were taking over the fishing business........

The Vietnamese story is the classic immigrant story, isn't it? The group flees their homeland for some reason (famine, persecution, escaping dictatorship) and settles in the US in concentrated house holds. They operate small business and begin to grow. As their business (and their families) grow, they move out in concentric circles. Their children become more "American" as they become educated and as they take work, outside the family businesses.

Please explain trust fund kids and the advantages they get by virtue of their birth? Between living in Silicon Valley (longer than it's been known as Silicon Valley) and my wife working at Stanford for 24 years, I've known many trust fund kids. I've known many kids who don't have to work hard to clear the barriers most of us face.
So, hard work is important, but it isn't necessary. There are groups who will do well without it.

Its also the classic story of the power of cooperation of individuals with a common agenda... sometimes they are called unions. Vietnamese come from a culture of tribal roots so they don't fear this sort of cooperation. Jews also cooperate with each other in the same but more subtle ways. They take care of each other, and understand the benefit of that. Blacks do some of that, but their cultural psyche is still severly distorted and dysfunctional by centruies of oppresion and slavery, plus their culture was taught to adapt the white cultures narcissitic survial of the fittets version of competition where one does anything to "win". This attitude carries over into manfesting into the system of legalized corruption that is uesd to game the system in order to "win" less

So... your solution to a family run business that does well and sets up the younger members of the family, is that the wealth created be stripped from the younger members?.... How far do you take that 'leveling'.. to the parent who can afford to give their child a new care to do to college in? to a modest family where the children or child inherits a home? Or do you thing that those Vietnamese kids have no right to the fishing boats that their family worked so hard to acquire?
I have heard this so many times and it is confusing to me. Why should a person who has been brought up in a family with a strong work ethic and prudent financial planning be penalised?

"Right. A strong work ethic is supposed to matter.

------------------
Work ethic. Everybody has one, like "class", some, a lot and some, not so much. Trust fund kids, lotto winners and 1%ers are statistical outliers in our example. I know they're there but they're certainly in a different orbit than most. But even so, a work ethic implies a value system that may work for or against a person, rich or not. Well off trust fund kids who have no standards or sense of "values" will not be well off for long. No advantage, be it good health, a quick mind or financial accumen should be "wasted" - that's a sign of no ethical training at all. less

But isn't your premise eerily like that put forth by Cloward-Piven...? Overload social welfare services and the government will be forced to step in and redistribute resources "for our own good".
