Topics> Why is the fact that George Romney, Sr was born in Mexico, on a polygamist's compund, off limits for discussion
ArizonaCondor 3 days ago
ArizonaCondor 3 days ago
The Romney patriarchs were part of a colony of Mormon expatriates who fled across the border in order to practice their religion of plural celestial marriage, which was outlawed in the U.S. in the 1850's, as a condition of Utah statehood. That Mormon compound still exists. I'm sure many Romney relatives are still there, citizens of Mexico.

What are you talking about?
"a good story about Romney's high school days" is right here on the front page.
As for what your topic claims to have been off limits---'the Mexican polygamy cult' here we are still discussing it 3, not 2, hours later.

You might not be aware but Obama's own father was a polygamist. This subject turned taboo about 3 weeks ago now. Obama camp has stopped bringing up the issue because of this. You need to bring this topic down before word gets out about Obama.

I think Obama's biological father has been pretty carefully scrutinized. He was clearly a brilliant, but deeply flawed man. Barack only saw him once or twice in his entire life. He was raised from birth by his mother, briefly with help from his Indonesian step-father, then, after his mother's death from ovarian cancer, he was raised from his middle-school age, by his maternal grandparents in Hawaii. Everyone who knew Obama as a child says he was a quiet, studious, deeply thoughtful, sensitive, sometimes slightly withdrawn young man.
This is a classic American success story..... maybe THE CLASSIC American success story.

I repeat Obama's father was a known polygamist, and now that word has gotten out, the instructions from the DNC are for good libs to not bring up the issue in case it becomes the next dog meat.

You want to give links to these biographies? Hows about some childhood friends? Girlfriends?.... anybody? Also, that 'long form' birth certificate posted on the Whitehouse website was a fake.... his own lawyers said so.....and hows about the Connecticut SS number given that he was never resident in Connecticut.... and that rule change just 4 days after Sheriff Joe opened an enquiry into Barack's selective service registration allowing for the microfilm containing his registration to be destroyed...
Nothing classic about him but a lot of mystery

All I was saying is that Barack Obama's father was not there when his character was being formed.
There are already reams of original source information about Barack Obama's formative years. He comes from very humble (literally) middle class people who were also elderly and media shy. He spent part of his youth with his grandparents in Kansas, for krysakes.

I don't care if Obama came from a ménage à trois, he was not raised with intimate family connections to a polygamist Mexican cult.
Mitt Romney's "otherness" is far more 'other" than Obama's. The Bible Belters hate him. The Methodists and Baptists will be staying home in November.

So you are playing the 'otherness' card, huh AZ?
Is a polygamist Mexican cult the worst thing you can think of?
Although I expect you mean a polygamist cult in Mexico.
How can you discriminate against polygamists?
Are you some kind of a hypocritical bigot?
How about if they were gay polygamist wanting to get more married?
That OK?

I think Romney's kids have the beginning of the "Habsburg chin" on them (after the royal family of Europe's Holy Roman Empire, based out of Vienna).
Protruding chins such as the Romneys' are a sure sign of first cousin-first-cousin marriages over the generations.
Yes, it's "Mexican polygamist cult" I meant to say.

You do realize, don't you, that the Romneys are Americans living in Mexico. Many have dual citizenship but none have only Mexican citizenship. Romney's father and Romney had only US citizenship.
So how does that make it a Mexican polygamist cult?

Then I get to read a post by this Liberal poster and a statement such as the one that follows:

This statement is the pits! You Liberals need to get a real argument going as post such as this are not going to save this Failed Presidency.

I doubt many on the left truly care about Mormonism either, Maxy. I also doubt that will stop them from bringing it up ad nauseum. This thread is an example of many to come, trying to feed off fear of that 'otherness' Arizona so blatantly points out.
Religion of any sort makes some people uncomfortable as we have seen here on the board before. Mormonism seems to invite even more distrust. As Lou points out it would be interesting if he were a gay Mormon or even better a gay black Mormon--now you're talking!
I guess we will both have the privelege of seeing for ourselves, won't we?

Trim your broad brush just a bit Teri, I doubt few people here on the left truly care about Romney's Mormonism and though I don't have a link for this, my gut feeling is that his religion is a bigger deal to conservative Christians then it is to the left. It certainly doesn't matter to me.

There are posters here whom I consider to be good friends, both on and off the board. . Carol has suggested that the topic content is drivel and she is correct. To discuss Gays, as Carol suggests, would be but a slight improvement.
To discuss real and significant differences between the parties would be better and to discuss that secret cow the Supreme Court would be even better. Your Supreme Court is similar in make up top ours, it is a politically appointed body and therefore relies more on Political patronage for its legitimacy than it does on its legal abilities. How long I wonder before another Oliver Wendell Holmes appears on the scene? I guess about the time another Jefferson is elected President.

Surely even in Australia you have a deep distrust of those mysterious and no doubt dastardly Mormons, don't you?
Surely you're up for endless Mormon bashing till the election, arn't you?
Whatever else would you want to be doing?
We know that references to other isssues like the Supreme Court are diversionary tactics so you won't appear quite so eager to hear more Mormon trivia.
BTW How's the wife? I trust she has made an exemplary recovery.

I think you are being funny but just in case; I distrust no man for whatever religious persuasion. I would never attempt to debar on religious grounds any candidate for public office. I fancy your 1st amendment would support my contention. We occasionally see Mormon missionaries here, they are harmless and I always engage them in conversation (as I do with every American accent I hear) thus I get a better insight into your people and your country.
Thanks for the concern for the leader of the opposition. Monday will determine the pathology of the specimen removed.

I don't believe Romney is a natural born citizen.
Can anyone born into a Mexican polygamist cult be considered natural born?
Let's see the certificate... LONG FORM.
How many wives did Mitt Romney's grandfather have in Mexico? How many of them were 14 years old, or younger? How many siblings issued from these arranged cult marriages? What kind of links does Romney still maintain with the Mexican polygamist compound?

Mitt was born in Detroit to two US citizens. It's going to be a little hard to claim he himself is not a citizen.
Even if by some stretch of your rather twisted imagination you decide his father is disqualified--which he isn't but you know how you get---his mother, Lenore was born in Salt Lake City so she can't be much in question. All it takes is one citizen parent and being born in the US--pretty solid.

Nothing hard about.
But you have to ask for it from someone who might have it to show.
I could show you my birth certificate, for instance, but nobody around here is the keeper of Romney's birth certificate.
So why don't you figure out how to officially request to see it and report back?
Do something constructive about it, since you don't believe published facts.
BTW, we are still discussing this more than a day after you proclaimed such discussion was going to prove to be off limits.
Had any realizations yet?

I say show him the birth certificate--whyever not--but I do wonder if he really thinks Romney is not a citizen?
Or is he just obstructionist?
Or perhaps merely obtuse?

Obsessed? Repressed? Or mostly self-impressed?

LOL no one "blames" Romney for being born into a cult, only that his cultish Family weilds direct influence on his personality and character......
In Obama's case, his father had little to do with his upbringing. Instead he was exposed to a lot of different cultures, and raised by salt of the earth Grand parents, and worked very hard to get were he is. Romney had it all handed to him.
